XBee Pro 50mW RPSMA - Series 2 (ZigBee Mesh)

XBee Pro 50mW RPSMA - Series 2 (ZigBee Mesh)

This is the XBee XBP24BZ7SIT-004 module from Digi. The new Series 2B improves upon the power output and data protocol of the Pro Series2. Series 2B modules allow you to create complex mesh networks based on the XBee ZB ZigBee mesh firmware. These modules allow a very reliable and simple communication between microcontrollers, computers, systems, really anything with a serial port! Point to point and multi-point networks are supported.

Series 2B modules use a different hardware configuration from the earlier models and while they will communicate with Series 2 XBee modules, they are not compatible with the outdated Series 2.5 Modules.

Note: If you are looking for a simple point-to-point configuration, you might want to try the Series 1 instead. The Series 2 requires considerable setup and configuration. We highly recommend Building Wireless Sensor Networks as a guide for setting up mesh networks.

Note: Series 1 and Series 2B XBee modules have the same pin-out. However, Series 1 modules cannot communicate with Series 2B modules.

Features:

  • 3.3V @ 295mA
  • 250kbps Max data rate
  • 50mW output (+17dBm)
  • 1 mile (1600m) range
  • RPSMA connector
  • Fully FCC certified
  • 6 10-bit ADC input pins
  • 8 digital IO pins
  • 128-bit encryption
  • Local or over-air configuration
  • AT or API command set

XBee Pro 60mW Wire Antenna - Series 1 (802.15.4)

XBee Pro 60mW Wire Antenna - Series 1 (802.15.4) This is the very popular 2.4GHz XBee XBP24-AWI-001 module from Digi. The Pro series have the same pinout and command set of the basic series with an increase output power of 60mW! These modules take the 802.15.4 stack (the basis for Zigbee) and wrap it into a simple to use serial command set. These modules allow a very reliable and simple communication between microcontrollers, computers, systems, really anything with a serial port! Point to point and multi-point networks are supported.

Features:

Arduino Wireless SD Shield

The Wireless SD shield allows an Arduino board to communicate wirelessly using a wireless module. It is based on the Xbee modules from Digi, but can use any module with the same footprint. The module can communicate up to 100 feet indoors or 300 feet outdoors (with line-of-sight). It can be used as a serial/usb replacement or you can put it into a command mode and configure it for a variety of broadcast and mesh networking options. The shields breaks out each of the Xbee's pins to a through-hole solder pad.

Included on board is a SD card slot. When using the SD Library to access the card, Pin 4 is CS and cannot be used otherwise. SPI also relies on pins 11, 12, and 13 for communication.

An on-board switch allows the wireless module to communicate with the USB-to-serial converter or with the microntroller.

The Arduino Pro

The Arduino Pro is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega168 (datasheet) or ATmega328 (datasheet). The Pro comes in both 3.3V / 8 MHz and 5V / 16 MHz versions. It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a battery power jack, a power switch, a reset button, and holes for mounting a power jack, an ICSP header, and pin headers. A six pin header can be connected to an FTDI cable or Sparkfun breakout board to provide USB power and communication to the board.

The Arduino Pro is intended for semi-permanent installation in objects or exhibitions. The board comes without pre-mounted headers, allowing the use of various types of connectors or direct soldering of wires. The pin layout is compatible with Arduino shields. The 3.3V versions of the Pro can be powered with a battery.

Summary
  • Microcontroller ATmega168 or ATmega328
  • Operating Voltage 3.3V or 5V
  • Input Voltage 3.35 -12 V (3.3V versions) or 5 - 12 V (5V versions)
  • Digital I/O Pins 14 (of which 6 provide PWM output)
  • Analog Input Pins 6

CHARGE-TRANSFER TOUCH SENSOR QProx™ QT113

The QT113 charge-transfer (“QT’”) touch sensor is a self-contained digital IC capable of detecting near-proximity or touch. It will project a proximity sense field through air, and any dielectric like glass, plastic, stone, ceramic, and most kinds of wood. It can also turn small metal-bearing objects into intrinsic sensors, making them responsive to proximity or touch. This capability coupled with its ability to self calibrate continuously can lead to entirely new product concepts.

It is designed specifically for human interfaces, like control panels, appliances, toys, lighting controls, or anywhere a mechanical switch or button may be found; it may also be used for some material sensing and control applications provided that the presence duration of objects does not exceed the recalibration timeout interval.

Power consumption is only 600µA in most applications. In most cases the power supply need only be minimally regulated, for example by Zener diodes or an inexpensive 3-terminal regulator. The QT113 requires only a common inexpensive capacitor in order to function.

The QT113’s RISC core employs signal processing techniques pioneered by Quantum; these are specifically designed to make the device survive real-world challenges, such as ‘stuck sensor’ conditions and signal drift.

The option-selectable toggle mode permits on/off touch control, for example for light switch replacement. The
Quantum-pioneered HeartBeat™ signal is also included, allowing a microcontroller to monitor the health of the QT113 continuously if desired. By using the charge transfer principle, the IC delivers a level of performance clearly superior to older technologies in a highly cost-effective package.

  • Light switches
  • Appliance control
  • Access systems

  • Pointing devices
